Work anniversary cards

What to write in a work anniversary card for a coworker

Work anniversary cards fail when they sound like a certificate: "Congratulations on 10 years of dedicated service." The person already has the certificate. What they do not have is a record of what their colleagues noticed along the way.

The easiest way to write one is to think of a single moment: the project where they saved the day, the thing they taught you in your first month, the habit everyone has quietly copied. One real example says more about the years than any adjective.

Three things worth getting right

  • Mention the number of years; it is the point of the card.
  • Pick one concrete thing they did, not a list of qualities.
  • If you are new, say what you have noticed so far. That counts too.

Common questions

What if I have only worked with them a few months?

Say what you have seen so far: "In three months I have already learned where to go with every hard question: you." Lines from newcomers show that the person's impact reaches people they have only just met.

Should a work anniversary card be funny?

A light touch works well, especially about the office itself, but keep at least one sincere line. The number of years deserves to be taken seriously for a moment.
